Alice, 20, began studying
the violin at the age of ten. She studied with Mr. Ludwig, William Pu, and Jay
Christy. She has since been a member of numerous orchestras, including the
Firelands Symphony Orchestra and the Cleveland Institute of Music Symphony
Orchestra. She sat concertmaster for the Brevard Music Center Transylvania
Symphony Orchestra and Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra, with which she also
had the opportunity to solo with. Alice
has played in masterclasses for Cyrus Forough, William Preucil, David
Updegraff, Andres Cardenes and Joseph Genualdi. She is an avid chamber
musician, having been coached by members of the Juilliard String Quartet,
Cavani String Quartet, Miro String Quartet, Chiara String Quartet, and others
such as Roger Tapping, Andrew Jennings, Peter Salaff, Nicholas Tzavaras, Frank
Huang and Samuel Rhodes. She has participated in CIM’s Intensive Quartet
Seminar for two semesters, and her quartet has received the honor of being the
featured performers of several programs, of premiering several pieces, and of
receiving a fellowship at University
of Nebraska’s Chamber
Music Institute. Alice was the recipient of
CIM’s Academic Achievement Award as well as Brevard Music
Center’s “Outstanding
Musician” award. She has received scholarship awards from the Atlanta
Federation of Musicians and the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra.
Alice also began composing at the age of
nine. Her first composition was premiered at the age of 11 by the Ludwig
Symphony Orchestra. Since then, she has had her music performed by members of
the New York Philharmonic, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Atlanta Symphony Youth
Orchestra, and students at the Cleveland Institute of Music. Her large
ensemble music has been performed a number of times by the Ludwig Symphony
Orchestra. She has received several recognitions for her compositions, including
the ASCAP Foundation Young Composers Award in 2004 and 2005, as well as an
Honorable Mention in 2006. She was also awarded first prize and honorable
mention at the Pike’s Peak
Young Composer’s Competition, as well as local prizes including the
Georgia Music Teacher Association’s Composer Competition. Her pieces have been
performed throughout the United States
as well as the Czech
Republic at the
International Music Academy of Pilsen, and have been discussed in the Atlanta
Symphony Orchestra’s Speller
of Notes series.
Alice is now a composition minor at the
Cleveland Institute of Music, her principal study being violin
performance. She is a student of Jeremy Allen. Her previous teachers include
Lawrence Sherr, professor at Kennesaw State University,
University of Nebraska's Damon Lee, and Tim Mauthe, a
graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music.
