美東南玉山科技協會理事長李玲日前宣布2015「玉山科技青年獎」之申請細節，並自即日起開始接受申請。為嘉惠更多華裔子弟及擴展青年奬的涵蓋性，玉山青年 獎項獎金今年更多元化。除繼續與臧伯駿基金會合作外，玉山特別設立青年勵志奬、社區傑出奬及今年増設的領導能力獎、綠色環保奬、科學工程奬及特殊才藝獎。

臧伯駿基金會負責人徐凱同意今年提供三名奨學金，分別為一千五百元、一千元及五百元，主要奬勵品學全能的學生。青年勵志奬，由玉山前任理事長鍾斌博士夫婦提 供，鼓勵有志向學、品行端正、需要經援的華裔青年，獎金五佰元。社區傑出奬一名，由王立綱律師提供，獎勵奉獻社區、服務傑出的學生，獎金五佰元。領導能力 獎，由南卡趙繼民夫婦提供，獎勵在課外活動表現領導風範並有影響力的學生，獎金五佰元。綠色環保獎，由北卡黃火金教授夫婦提供，奬勵有環保意識並且參與實際環保行動的學生，獎金五佰元。科學工程奬，由IronCad 公司提供，奬勵有志進入科學工程並在STEM表現優異的學生，獎金五佰元。特殊才藝獎，由亞特蘭大中國小姐基金會于大濰先生提供，奬勵在表演藝術、視覺藝術或體育方面有特殊成就的學生，獎金五佰元。其他入選學生亦將獲二百元至四百元獎學金， 由玉山科技提供。

歡迎下學年度就讀高中十一年級或十二年級，具優良學業成績，品德端正，服務傑出，及有志研習科學、工程、醫學、文學及商學等高級專業技術知識，未領過此獎，並願親自參加頒獎典禮及才藝表演的青年學生踴躍申請。

「玉山科技青年獎」設置之主要目的為鼓勵華裔青年立志鑽研人文科學，培養在未來專業領域之領導能力，塑造青年優秀模範表率，並經由獎章來肯定優秀青年的大學入學條件，幫助其進入理想的學術環境，追求研習目標。今年預定名額十四名，優勝者將於玉山科技年會中（十一月十四日）獲頒發獎狀及獎金。

除填申請表一份外，須附高中學校的全部成績單，SAT/ACT分數，兩封推薦函，其中一封來自被推薦人之學校(中文學校亦可) 教師。一份簡歷包括求學就業計畫、學業成就及社區服務活動，以及一張個人彩色照片。 申請特殊才藝奬者另附作品照片或録影片段。申請勵志獎者另附家長2014年稅單。報名截止日期九月廿日。玉山科技協會將於十月底公佈獲獎名單，頒獎典禮將於十一月十四日年會中舉行。

玉山青年獎自一九九四年成立以來，今年已進入第廿二年。歷年得獎人不乏在工作崗位及專業領域有成就者，進入名校就讀者更不計其數，表現可圈可點。今年更吸引了多位奬項獎金提供者，是美國東南區僑界有史以來最負盛名最多元的高中生獎學金。

2015 Science and Technology Young Achiever Award

1.    Sponsoring Organization
    Monte Jade Science and Technology Association – Southeastern U.S.  (MJSTASE)

2.    Objectives

    To encourage outstanding youth to pursue advanced studies in areas of science, engineering, arts, medicine and business, fostering leadership in professional areas and establishing role models for younger generations.  The Award recognizes their accomplishments and promotes their credentials for application to competitive higher education institutions.

3.    Eligibility and Review Criteria

    The award accepts applicants from 11th to 12th grades with outstanding academic achievements, excellent moral conduct, and extraordinary leadership and service accomplishments.  Applicants should have an established plan for pursuing advanced study in college and beyond.

The Community Excellence Award recognizes a student who has made outstanding contributions to community service and has maintained a strong academic standing.  

The Science Engineering Award recognizes a student who has made outstanding achievements in all areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

The Inspirational Scholarship Award recognizes a student who has maintained satisfactory academic progress and will be determined based on the financial background of the student’s family.

The Leadership Award recognizes a student who has made a positive impact on the organizations or clubs or community he/she is active in and has demonstrated a great deal of leadership potential.

The Environmental Sustainability Award recognizes a student who has been actively involved in any environmental sustainability projects/activities/organizations or promoted the awareness of environmental sustainability.

The Special Talent Award recognized a student whose talent has been refined to a high degree of skill and proficiency and, through energetic application of these abilities, has
demonstrated preeminence in a specific area of accomplishment (i.e.  visual arts, performing arts, sports,etc.)


The Awards will not be conferred on the same student more than once.  The applicants should commit to attend personally the Awards ceremony once selected for the Award.

4.    Application Procedure
    Fill out a copy of the application form.  Please attach:

•    Full school transcript
•    Two recommendation letters
•    A typed essay in 500 words or less summarizing academic achievements, leadership skills, community service, and future career goals
•    A brief bio in 100 words or less for MJSTA-SE year book.  
For Inspirational Scholarship and Chinese School Scholarship applicants, a copy of student parents’ tax form (2014 ) should also be included. For Special Talent Award applicants, a portfolio or video clip or photos should be submitted.

5.    Review Process and Awards Ceremony

    The Vice-President of the MJSTASE moderates the review panel.  The review panel consists of distinguished professors from local universities and professionals in the science and technology fields.  Award winners will be announced to the news media by October 30, 2015.  The Awards ceremony will be held during the MJSTASE’s annual meeting on November 14, 2015.  The parents of award recipients and their references will be invited to attend the ceremony.

6.    Award

Each recipient of the award shall receive an award certificate from MJSTASE along with a monetary award. The amount of the award varies each year. For 2015, the award is sponsored in seven areas:  
1.    Po Chun and Chien Pin Tsang Scholarship ($1500, $1000, $500)
2.    General MJSTASE Scholarship (multiple awards) ($300- $200)
3.    Science Engineering Award by IronCad ($500)
4.    Inspirational Scholarship by Dr. and Mrs. Bin Chung ($500)
5.    Community Excellence Award by Wang Law Firm ($500)
6.    Leadership Award by Mr. And Mrs. Jimmy Chao ($500)
7.    Environmental Sustainability Award by Dr. And Mrs. Alex Huang ($500)
8.    Special Talent Award by Mr. David Yu of Miss Chinatown Atlanta ($500)
9.    Chinese School Award by Taste of Taiwan ($300)

 The selection and rank of the award recipients will be determined by the review panel.
