Monte Jade Science and Technology Association (玉山科技協會) will conduct an investment seminar on Bitcoin and non-traded REIT (Real Estate Investment Trust ) this Saturday (5/3/14). The purpose of the seminar is to educate our community on two interesting investment products.
The seminar is free and open to the public. Here are the details:
Bitcoin Presentation Abstract:
We have all heard about Bitcoin in the news lately, but what is Bitcoin really? It has been referred to as a currency, a payments network, and digital gold. Invented in 2009, Bitcoin has just recently burst into the mainstream, growing over 9,000% in value in 2013 alone. Is it too good to be true, or a new asset class that is still in a stage of value discovery?
People all over the world are being drawn to Bitcoin due to its decentralized and deflationary nature. In countries like Argentina where the annual inflation rate is almost 11% and internet penetration is 55.8%, citizens are flocking to Bitcoin as a way to protect their future spending power. Recently, investors in China have taken a strong interest in Bitcoin as it's difficult for them to find good assets that generate high returns. It's no wonder why China has surged from seventh place in global Bitcoin collections last year to second, ranking only behind the US. For Chinese Bitcoin investors, Bitcoin offers real returns which is rare in a country where a rising middle class struggles to find investments to protect their assets against inflation.
Join us for an intro to Bitcoin presentation and Q&A session with Aaron Williams and Alan Annicella of Atlanta Bitcoin, a company that will be launching Bitcoin ATMs in the metro area later this year!
Aaron Williams is a former payments industry professional who had been working in traditional electronic payments for 11 years when he discovered Bitcoin. His experience in payments gives him a unique perspective on Bitcoin products and services that you don’t typically find in the Bitcoin space. His variety of Bitcoin experience includes Bitcoin as payment, Bitcoin regulation (Money Transmitter/MSB, AML/KYC/BSA), Bitcoin ATM compliance, Bitcoin ATMs startup consultation, and Bitcoin product/business development.
Alan Annicella's background is in environmental compliance, event planning and coordination, and he owns two small businesses of his own. In the quick paced, rapidly changing Bitcoin environment, it is necessary to see the details and connect to the bigger picture. Alan's background and experiences lend towards success in this new market.
Non-traded REIT Presentation Abstract:
During extended period of low interest rates, investors often seek products offering more attractive yields. One such product is the publicly registered non-exchange traded real estate investment trust (REIT) or "non-traded REIT" for short. While non-traded REITs and exchange-traded REITs share many features in common, they differ in several key respects. Most significantly, as the name implies, shares of non-traded REITs do not trade on a national securities exchange.
A real estate investment trust, or REIT, is a corporation, trust or association that owns (and might also manage) income-producing real estate. REITs pool the capital of numerous investors to purchase a portfolio of properties—from office buildings and shopping centers to hotels and apartments, even timber-producing land—which the typical investors might not otherwise be able to purchase individually.
David Lee, EastWest Bank FVP-Private Client Service Manager, and Rick Handrich, Senior Regional Vice President of NorthStar Realty Securities, LLC, will share information on how non-traded REIT can create opportunity for capital appreciation, diversification of the current portfolio, and the complexities and risks these investments may carry.
