Angel Rivers, a 2007 graduate of Frederick Douglass High School, was in
a Chrysler Concord that was struck by an alleged drunk driver, police said. She died from her injuries, and three other women were also injured, police said.Donis Alexander Hodges, 24, is charged with DUI, vehicular homicide, following too closely, and reckless driving, said Atlanta police spokesman Otis Redmond in a press release. Rivers was the mother of a young daughter, high school friend Jasmine Houston told the AJC. Houston created a memorial on Facebook to remember Rivers, a popular girl with a good sense of humor.
Houston said many classmates and friends were struggling to believe that Rivers was gone. Rivers was planning to return to her high school for the Homecoming football game in October, Houston said.
"Why? Why?" Houston said. "It's too soon. She was 21."
