DEKALB COUNTY BOARD OF HEALTH STRIVES TO MEET THE NEEDS OF ALL RESIDENTS
The DeKalb County Board of Health will host a FREE H1N1 vaccine clinic at Plaza Fiesta, 4166 Buford Hwy, Atlanta, Ga. 30345 on Sunday Feb. 21, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. All persons are welcome to receive the H1N1 vaccination. According to health experts, the U.S. Hispanic population is expected to triple in the next 40 years, and by 2050, one in four persons in the United States will be Latino. Health challenges facing the community are expected to multiply in the years ahead. The need for more health education and access to screenings to address both current and growing needs is important. "We want to both educate the community about the virus as well as bring a free H1N1 screening to a setting that is well known and where people can easily access the vaccination," says Bernard Hicks, Program Manager, Office of Emergency Preparedness at the DeKalb County Board of Health. The H1N1 immunization will be free of charge but a small administrative fee may be charged to Medicare, Medicaid or private insurance. If insured, persons should bring their insurance card and their vaccination records at the time of service. Walk-in service for the H1N1 vaccination continues to be available at all DeKalb County Board of Health centers, Monday through Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For more information about the event, contact Britney Smith, Risk Communicator, Office of Emergency Preparedness, at 404-297-7233.
