By Simon Weil
(http://www.blurb.com/user/yihsintzeng).

Beauty always promises, but never gives. –By Simon Weil
For “My Magazines Project,” the artist collects large amounts of international commercial images from her daily visual environment. Tzeng defaces selected images with playful mark-making, and then republish the magazines again every two months (http://www.blurb.com/user/yihsintzeng).
They are "real," but not really "real" magazines. They are too beautiful to be believed: they are too perfect to be trusted. Even as the artist makes fun of the hyper-affected glamorous images, they are repeated and mass-produced. Of these images, the artist remarks, “No matter how much luxurious clothing we put on, we still cannot hide their true faces. After excavating their true parts beneath the flesh, we will reconstruct another pretty and messy paradise.” The action of altering and appropriating not only establishes her regurgitated aesthetics but also proclaims a regained control of the image. In this show, viewers can appreciate the original pages and final transformed product at the same time.
Also on view, will be large-scale paintings based on Tzeng’s most recent transformed image series titled The Big Breast Calendar. The images contain nude females showing their giant breasts with affected gestures covered in part by painting patterns and strokes. Popular iconography, defaced and altered, brings questions of sexuality and the grotesque into sharp focus.

About Young Blood Gallery
Voted “Best of Atlanta” by Creative Loafing and Atlanta Magazine, Young Blood Gallery & Boutique is a place to find your passion. Young Blood gallery was founded in 1997 when owners Maggie White and Kelly Teasley saw a gap between the incredible talent of local, unknown artists and the opportunities they were being given within the traditional art establishment. Since then, Young Blood has led an explosion in independent galleries, while remaining at the forefront of cutting-edge art. Uniqueness, affordability and community remain the watch words of Young Blood.
