The MAT in Foreign Languages is an alternative initial certification program leading to P-12 teacher certification in Chinese. This program offers students a common core in Professional Education as well as graduate study in Chinese language. We are now searching for qualified teacher candidates in Chinese for our inaugural MAT program.
The requirements for completion of the Master of Arts in Teaching include:
MAT students can take most of their Professional Experience courses during Fall and Spring Semester (Two courses in the Bagwell College of Education of KSU are offered during first summer).
Content courses in Chinese in linguistics, culture and literature are offered during two summers of the course sequence. Chinese MAT students take their content courses as a study abroad experience at Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) in China.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree with a minimum 2.75 grade point average (out of 4.0)
21 undergraduate credit hours or equivalent in Chinese at 3000 or 4000 level (in language, literature, culture, and linguistics )
Passing scores on GACE Basic Skills Examinations (reading, writing, math)
Passing scores on ACTFL’s Oral Proficiency Interview and Writing Proficiency Test (Minimum proficiency: “Intermediate High”)
GRE or MAT scores
Two letters of recommendation
A criminal background check form and professional resume
