About the Chamber
Besides being a valuable and dedicated member of the Georgia China Alliance, The Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce (MACOC) is comprised of over 4,000 of Atlanta's successful businesses. Their members range from Fortune 500 companies to smaller start up firms with industries including high tech manufacturing corporations to personal services. As a privately funded organization, the Chamber represents the voice of the business community and is devoted to creating a high quality business environment for new and existing businesses.
MACOC's committment to connecting and mobilizing the business community to drive economic development and public policy has promoted sustainable growth for Atlanta. In the last 10 years, MACOC has recruited over 420 companies generating more than 40,000 jobs. With a focus on creating high value jobs, the Chamber continuously seeks corporate headquarters, global commerce, and companies in the supply chain management and technology sectors to bring to the metro area.
About the Speaker Jorge Fernandez was appointed vice president of global commerce for the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce on May 15, 2006. Prior to his addition to the Chamber, Fernandez served as the director of Delta's Latin American and Caribbean Region. He was responsible for the full operational and administrative duties of more than 40 nonstop flights to 25 cities in 19 countries. In addition to Fernandez's impressive resume, he served 24 years in the U.S. Air Force as command pilot, strategic planner, international affairs advisor, and held various diplomatic posts.
Originally from Havana, Cuba, and fluent in English, Spanish and Portuguese, Fernandez holds a bachelor's degree in business management from the University of Puerto Rico and a master's degree in international marketing from Texas Christian University. He was named by Hispanic Business magazine as one of the "100 Most Influential Hispanics in the United States" for 2003 and is the recipient of Panama's 2002 "Friendship Award".
