MIKE DENG
Mike is a Senior Consultant in the Strategy & Operations practice, focused on supply chain strategy, supply chain transformation, spend analysis, total cost of ownership modeling, supplier performance evaluation, sourcing strategy, supplier relationship management, and contract management.
Mike has multiple years of global experience in Supply Chain & Manufacturing Operation consulting, helping multinational companies restructure their supply chain and procurement operations. He has led teams collecting global customer requirements, customizing supply chain systems based on regional differentiation, implementing supply chain integration strategy globally, and conducting global supply chain transformation.
Prior to Deloitte, Mike worked as a consultant for FIAT SCM Department in Turin, Italy. He led teams to roll out Real Time Manufacturing (FIAT BOM application) for FIAT’s joint ventures in China, India, and Brazil. Also Mike led a global team to develop and deploy a new inventory management process for Cummins.
Mike has an M.B.A. in Supply Chain Management, an M.E. in Information Technology, and a B.A. in Computer Science. Mike is a native mandarin speaker and socially proficient in Italian. Mike is APICS Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) and PMI certified Project Management Professional (PMP). Also Mike has a passion for Pro Bono. He was the Chief Secretory of Chinese Students and Scholars Union in Italy with around 10,000 members, and managed 20 branches’ day-to-day operation and strategy development. He led a team of 30+ volunteers and published a book called “Guide for Chinese Students Studying in Italy”.
CHARLENE FANG
A native of Taiwan, Charlene Fang immigrated to the United States in 1990. A leader in the banking industry, Charlene served for 15 years as Relationship Officer with Summit National Bank until leaving to join the Touchmark National Bank as its Senior Vice President & Business Development Officer. In 2014, Charlene, an entrepreneur, founded her own educational consulting business.
Charlene has devoted much of her time giving back to the community. She is the past President of the Chinese American Lions Club and served as a Leo Advisor, guiding the youth service club. Charlene was the 2nd female President to serve the Hip Sing Association of Atlanta, a 150 year old Chinese association. She is a founding member of the Taiwanese American Women’s Club and the Chamblee Chamber of Commerce. Charlene is a former board member of Leadership DeKalb, and currently serves on the boards of the DeKalb Police Alliance, the Interfaith Out Reach Home, the FBI Atlanta Citizens Academy and Discover DeKalb. She is also Vice President of the North Decatur Lions club.
Charlene has a passion for helping others to succeed. She has sponsored many fund raising efforts in the community and serves as an advisor to a number of local businesses and groups. Charlene is a cheerleader for DeKalb County and works tirelessly to promote our region as a whole.
ZHENHUA (STEVEN) GU
Steven Gu is a CPA (Licensed in Georgia) and Attorney (Licensed in New York). He works for Mergers & Acquisition – Tax department of KPMG LLP. His practices include tax Reorganization and Restructuring, Bankruptcy workout, Basis and E&P study, Tax Carve-out (Spin off & IPOs), Due Diligence and other tax planning services. He has represented clients from different industries including Energy & Alternative Energy, Hotel Management, Aerospace, Private Equity, Financing & Banking, Healthcare, Telecommunication, etc. Steven also plays a key role in KPMG’s US China Practice which assists Chinese companies seeking to access U.S. markets – expanding operations, raising capital and/or engaging in M&A. KPMG US China Practice, in collaboration with the member firm in China, also helps U.S. companies implement cross-border investment strategies and navigate the associated risks, whether they contemplate market entry, M&A or optimization of existing operations.
Prior to joining KPMG, Steven worked in the Legal Department of the Central Bank of China from 1999 to 2002. His professional experience involves Financial and Banking law, Central Bank took-over, foreign exchange and foreign investment.
Steven is actively involved in the local Chinese and Asian Pacific American communities. He has been serving as a NACA board member since 2007. He served as NACA Vice President, Senior Vice President for the term of 2009 and 2010, respectively. He was the committee chair for the Inaugural NACA US China Business Conference held in November 2010, which attracted more than 250 attendants, including many multinational corporate senior executives and mayor of Atlanta.
He is an active member ASCEND, a premier professional organization dedicated to enabling its members, business partners and the community to leverage the leadership and global business potential of Pan-Asians. He served as a mentor to ASCEND Emory Chapter.
RIC HUBLER
Ric Hubler joined Metro Atlanta Chamber’s (MAC) Global Commerce team as the director of global business growth in January 2007. Ric is responsible for programs to increase international trade by helping local companies expand their businesses to international markets.
He assists local small and medium-sized companies that are looking to expand internationally by helping them to identify new markets and investment opportunities outside the United States and putting them in touch with the proper resources, both locally and internationally.
Ric partners with the local consular community and state and federal agencies along with economic development agencies, consulting firms and financial institutions around the world to accomplish this goal. He also works with local universities, research institutions and cultural organizations to foster partnerships and exchanges with similar organizations around the globe.
In addition, Ric works with many local partners to globally brand the metro Atlanta region as an international business center through targeted marketing campaigns, trade and educational missions to targeted markets and relationship building with key bi-national partners in the metro Atlanta area.
He currently serves on the Board of the Brazilian-American Chamber of Commerce Southeast and is an active member of the National Association of Chinese-Americans (NACA) in Atlanta.
He was previously with The Home Depot, where he earned his Six Sigma Green Belt while working in the company’s internal audit leadership program. Ric led various business process improvement projects across several areas of the company, including merchandising and marketing, human resources, information technology, finance and store operations, including in México. He also worked in business development and brand protection for the company’s fast-growing services division.
Ric was a member of the inaugural class of Georgia State University’s Global Partners MBA program, where he earned his international MBA and membership into the Beta Gamma Sigma International Honor Society. He also holds a Master’s of international management degree from the Université de Paris, Panthéon-Sorbonne and a certificate from COPPEAD Graduate School of Business of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. Ric obtained his Bachelor of Arts from Tulane University.
He speaks Spanish and Portuguese and is a native of Toledo, Ohio, and has lived in the metro Atlanta area since 1996. He currently resides in Dunwoody, and has been active in several local charities and community organizations, including: Atlanta Community Food Bank, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Habitat for Humanity, Hands on Atlanta, KaBoom! and the Woodruff Arts Center.
EUGENE (GENE) J. HANRATTY
A career Army Infantry officer who served for twenty years with multiple combat tours. While in the service studied Chinese (Mandarin) at the Defense Language Institute in Washington D.C. He is conversationally fluent in both Chinese and French. Had tours of duty overseas in Vietnam, Okinawa and Korea. As the son of a career Army officer he also lived in France for four years. While stationed in Hawaii from 1983-1987 he traveled the Pacific Rim extensively. Obtained a BA (History) from the University of Maryland and a Masters in Public Administration from Western Kentucky University. Mr. Hanratty is currently quite busy with International affairs in the Atlanta area. He represented The Korea Society in the Southeast from 1990 – 1994. In August of 1994 he assumed the position of Executive Director of the Korea –Southeast U.S. Chamber of Commerce which he held until 1998. At the same time the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (NY) retained Mr. Hanratty as their Southeast U.S. Coordinator and Senior Consultant which he continues as today. Mr. Hanratty is also the Executive Director of the Hong Kong Association of Atlanta. Mr. Hanratty remains active in local politics and civic activities. Mr. Hanratty serves on the Boards of the Asian American Chamber of Commerce, NACA, Hong Kong Association of Atlanta, Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival (Atlanta) and the National US Hong Kong Business Association of which he is the past Chairman. Mr. Hanratty recently completed his term on the Asian American Heritage Foundation Board of Directors. Mr. Hanratty has assisted numerous companies with joint ventures and projects throughout the Far East and is a Consultant to China Business Consulting (CBC). As part of his responsibilities with the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office Mr. Hanratty began the Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival in 1994 and is today the Chairman of the Board for the Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival – Atlanta.
Mr. Hanratty is married to the former Christina Sungyoon Pak. They have two daughters, Kelly Shannon Hanratty and Kathleen Meghan Hanratty. Mr. Hanratty has two sons from a previous marriage. Mr. Hanratty enjoys running and golf. Mr. Hanratty has completed the Ironman Triathlon in Hawaii three times and has run dozens of marathons.
BINGZI (LEONA) HU
Bingzi (Leona) Hu is an Attorney at L. David Wolfe, P.C. Founded in 1984, the Law Office of L. David Wolfe, P.C. is a prestigious and nationally recognized law firm consisting of lawyers specializing in the areas of criminal defense, civil litigation and administrative law. Over the past 30 years, Mr. Wolfe and his team have tried many high profile cases in Georgia courts and federal courts throughout the country. At L. David Wolfe, P.C., Leona engages in a variety of criminal and civil cases at both state and federal levels, including securities fraud, bank fraud, bankruptcy fraud, money laundering, and violation of civil rights.
Leona obtained her Juris Doctor’s degree from Georgia State University College of Law. After that, she pursued further studies in Federal Criminal Defense and Practices and obtained an LL.M. degree from Mercer University's Walter F. George School of Law. Prior to coming to the United States, Leona had a Master’s degree in Civil and Commercial Law and a Bachelor’s degree in Economic Law from Beijing Technology and Business University.
In November 2003, Leona had the honor to help Mr. Wang Tian, Deputy to the National People’s Congress of China, with a legislation project. Leona was responsible for the suggestion draft of Law of Mega Store. The draft was submitted to the 12th NPC by Mr. Wang, which was reported by more than ten media as “the very first time a Deputy to the NPC proposes a complete suggestion draft of law in China”. Later, the draft was partly adopted by Ministry of Commerce of China.
Leona joined NACA in 2009. She helped organize NACA’s very first U.S-China Business Conference in November 2010, hosting over 200 attendees and 25 guest speakers. Moreover, Leona published more than 10 articles/reports on NACA events at NACA’s official website and local Chinese newspapers.
JIN JIN
Dr. Jin is the Founder and President of Atlanta International Education Group (AIEG-www.atlanta-edu.com), an international company that provides various services on international education program, training program, culture & education exchange, international investment and international business.
Dr. Jin is a renowned education leader in international education affairs. She advocates the international exchanges in culture, education and business and devotes herself to international development of Atlanta.
Dr. Jin holds a Ph.D. degree in Chemistry from University of Science and Technology of China (USTC)—one of top ten universities in China. She previously worked as a scientist and educator at Emory University and the Ohio State University for ten years, published more than 36 papers and presented many talks in prestigious international conferences. She has received many awards including some from Chinese Academy of Science and Shuping Foundation in Hongkong. Dr. Jin has been actively involved in a variety of community activities. She is Chairman of Zhejiang Association of Georgia and Honorary President of Huzhou Federation of Overseas Chinese. She also serves on the advisory board of the China Task Force for Georgia State University, a board member of National Association of Chinese Americans (NACA) and other various roles in non-profit organizations.
Dr. Jin is a caring and warm-hearted person and enjoys helping people. She likes making all kind of international friends and learning from different cultures. Dr. Jin is passionate about caring the local Asian American community.
JIN LIAN
Jin Lian is Global Purchasing Director with Flex Imaging Company, where He built the oversea supply chain system for his company and led global outsourcing, logistics activities and supplier relationship management for the company. With Over 10 years experience in various facets of business strategy development, procurement management and global sourcing in both domestic and international markets, he has helped the company consistently gained growth and profitability. He also possesses extensive knowledge and connections with both American and Asian manufacturing industry.
Jin is also a founder of Real Estate consulting firm where he provides services for Real Property development, acquisition and asset management in the capital markets. His clients include large institutional investors and strong industry players from China.
Before that, he was commercial lending and relationship manager for Agricultural Bank of China, one of the largest banks of China and ranked No. 64 in Fortune's Global 500. Jin is an ambitious and enthusiastic individual who always enjoy challenge. He has been a member of National Association of Chinese- Americans (NACA) for 10 years and actively serves Atlanta Asian- Chinese community activities.
ETHEL MAR
Ethel has previously served as the Treasurer for NACA’s Board of Directors and has been an active member for many years and is pleased to be part of and to see the growth and the success of many community commitments during that time.
Originally from Canada, Ethel relocated to Atlanta with husband Jung, a retired corporate executive, who is presently a Senior Advisor with NACA. She has been involved in teaching ESL to foreign students and worked as a volunteer at local hospitals.
MAGGIE MERS
Maggie is the founder and CEO of MBM International Logistics, a dynamic freight forwarding company. In 2012 her company relocated to a new facility that she purchased and renovated into an 11,000sf combination office and warehouse expanding her service portfolio into warehousing and distribution. That same year she formed a strategic partnership with Hector Javier Romero, CHB Licensed Customs Broker in order to offer in house customs brokerage services to her extensive customer base.
Before starting MBM, Maggie was an international sourcing consultant and translator, primarily involved in the sourcing business of matching up companied with prospecting buyers’ worldwide, with primary emphasis on China.
Maggie was born in Beijing, she studied at Beijing Foreign Language University. She came to the United States as a recipient of a highly selective internship program in Hotel Management from the Walt Disney Company. She later attended Georgia State University, and also earned a Master degree in cosmetology.
Maggie has received the following awards and nominations. “As woman of the year 2010/2011 from the National Association of Professional Women or NAPW”
She was honored with a plaque from General Consul, Madam Qiao Hong for her work in providing the necessary logistics for the safe return of World Tour of Olympic Sculptures back to Beijing. She receive an appreciation certificate for sponsoring the opening of the 2008 Beijing Olympics at the World Trade Center or WTC.
Maggie is actively involved in the local Asian-Chinese communities. She has been a Member of NACA since 2007, and sever board member of CBAA as Treasure, she also member of Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce and Global Commerce, Atlanta air Cargo Association, Atlanta Maritime Association, Clayton County Chamber of Commerce, Air Ocean Partners and international association of freight forwarder and customs broker headquarter in Munich Germany with participation from industry membership in 101 countries.
RAN TAO
Ran Tao was born in Beijing, China. He immigrated to the New York with his parents when he was five, shortly after China opened up to the West. Growing up in the Northeast, Ran experienced firsthand some of the defining moments of his generation – the September 11attacks in 2001 and the financial crisis in 2008. He also witnessed the astonishing growth of China unfold throughout the turn of the century by visiting the country on summer vacations.
Ran went to Bard College and got a bachelor’s degree in biology, with a focus in ecology. After he graduated, Ran took a job at the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), a premier U.S. environmental NGO, to defend and advocate for the environment. Ran went on to work for a boutique consulting firm in Beijing focusing on clean technology innovation, and he came back to the U.S. to pursue graduate studies at Yale University in environmental management. Today, he works for The Coca-Cola Company in sustainability strategy. Ran has seen the limitations of Western development as well as the dangers (and rewards) of the model spreading rapidly across Asia. His ultimate aim is to help the U.S. and the Asia-Pacific region achieve a balance between economic, social and environmental prosperity.
Service to the community has always been important to Ran. After hurricane Katrina in 2005, Ran volunteered in New Orleans during winter break to help distribute food, gut rotting houses and set up medical triage operations. In college, he started a student initiative to address the health needs of the underserved migrant laborer population in New York State. Today he sits on a couple of nonprofit boards in Atlanta. Ran speaks English and Chinese. In his spare time, Ran enjoys traveling, reading, writing, soccer, cycling, shooting pool and sharing meals with friends and family.
PAULA WANG
Dr. Paula Wang is a woman entrepreneur who has founded and served as the Chairperson of Armonia International Co.Ltd since 2007. Armonia is a trading company bringing lifestyle products to clients all over the world, including European countries, Australia, Canada and the USA. She currently has relinquished from her daily duty at the company and focused on continuous self-fulfillment by enlisting herself into the Executive MBA program at George State University.
Prior to this family business duty, Dr. Wang had worked as senior executives for a number of Information Technology companies, including UFIDA, which is China’s largest management software provider, and US-based Silicon Valley startup. Over 10 years when working for those IT firms, she was mostly in charge of business development, marketing and strategic sales. Prior to her experience in IT industry, she worked as project director for a British consulting firm, which was the affiliate of Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) in China.
She started her career as a journalist for leading Chinese business newspapers and news agency after finished her study in Chinese literature in late 1980s. She was later awarded a Doctoral Degree of Law in 1998 by the School of Journalism and Communications, Renmin University of China.
Enthusiastic for public and community interests, Dr. Wang has been involved with a number of educational and nonprofit endeavors. She was an official reviewer for Gemological Institute of America, on its Global Pearl Courses; and she was art appreciation committee member of the Capital Club, the foremost private business club in China.
LANI WONG
Lani Wong, the current Chair of NACA, has been at the forefront of community service and community leadership for over 30 years. She is a true pioneer in her vision and foresight in promoting U.S.-China relations, excellence in education, participation of Asian-Americans in the American political process, and the importance of charitable organizations to serve the greater need of the Atlanta community. Ms. Wong is a recognized community leader at the local, national and international level. Some of her previous activities include: an invitation to attend private events during President Hu Jintao’s state visit in 2010; serving as only one of five U.S. citizens to be invited to attend the 5th Session of the 10th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference as a nonvoting delegate; and building strong relations between Georgian and Chinese culture and expanding an economic connection.
Ms. Wong has also been recognized with numerous awards and has garnered countless achievements such as being named as a 2010 recipient of the Spelman College Legacy Award, being nominee of the Georgia Asian Time’s 25 Most Influential Asian Americans in Georgia every year since it inception, and being elected as a Georgia Women Pioneer, by the National Organization of Black Elected Legislative Women in 2008. Ms. Wong has served on the Leadership Atlanta Foundation Board of Trustees for three years and Atlanta Women Foundation for 6 years. She is the first chair of the GA Asian Americans Affair Commission.
Outside of her work with NACA, Ms. Wong serves on Mayor Kasim Reed’s Transition team and is also a member of the Board of Directors for the following entities: Delta Air Lines’ Global Diversity Alliance, the Georgia Perimeter College Foundation, board members of the International Women Foundation of GA, Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce’s Global Business Council, DeKalb County Economic Development Authority Secretary and Public Broadcasting of Atlanta and member of the National Committee on US China Relation. She also help plan and accompany mayor Kasim Reed China Mission in March 2012.
WANG (CELENA) XU
Wang is an Auditor at Ernst & Young, LLP. Her professional experience includes insurance company and healthcare auditing. She is also a representative for EY’s China Overseas Investment Network in the Southeast area. Prior to joining in EY, she was an Associate Marketing Manager at Round Hill Furniture, a furniture wholesaler based in Columbus, OH. She has experience in opening new markets, building and maintaining customer relationships, and managing and coordinating office and warehouse operations. She acquired entrepreneurial experience as one of founding members of Shanghai Anzo Cloth Ltd. during her undergraduate in Shanghai, China.
Wang graduated from Fudan University in China. She obtained a Master of East Asian Languages and Literature from Ohio State University, and a Master of Accounting degree from Kenan-Flagler Business School at University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill).
Wang joined NACA at the end of 2009 and has been actively involved in several events held by NACA since then.
NIKKY YU
Nikki Yu joined the Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) in November 2013. The GDEcD is the state’s sales and marketing arm, the lead agency for attracting new business investment, encouraging the expansion of existing industry and small businesses, locating new markets for Georgia products, attracting tourists to Georgia, and promoting the state as a destination for arts events and location for film, music and digital entertainment projects, as well as planning and mobilizing state resources for economic development.
As a project manager for GDEcD’s Global Commerce division, Nikki recruits companies to locate and invest in Georgia. Prior to joining the international investment team, Nikki was an international trade manager for the department working with information, communication, and technology exporters statewide as well as exporters in middle Georgia. She has lived in Tianjin, China, and has private business experience in both the U.S. and China. Nikki is an active board member of the National Association of Chinese-Americans (NACA), the Georgia China Alliance (GCA) and the International Business Society (IBS) with the Technology Association of Georgia (TAG). Nikki is a Georgia native and a graduate of the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business.
LI ZHENG
Dr. Li Zheng is the Founder and President of Techtop Industries Inc., a manufacturing and distribution company for electric motors and related power transmission products. Li obtained his BS degree in Management from the University of Science and Technology of China in1991 and a Ph.D. degree in Water Resources Engineering from the University of Notre Dame in 1997. After graduated from Notre Dame, Li spent over 10 years working on various water resources and sustainable development projects in the western United States, Northern China, Tibet Plateau, and the mountainous regions of Nepal and India. Over last five years, Li has returned to his family business, founded and operated Techtop Industries Inc. in Atlanta with a focus on product innovation and resilient market-building. Li has been active within local Chinese-American community organizations since he moved to Atlanta in 2008. Li, his wife Yi Jiang, and their two children, reside in Candler Park.
