Her senior year she received a track scholarship to Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas. That’s when things took a turn for the worse. She left college, and married in 1995, then gave birth to her son Bradley in 1996. Eventually, she left her abusive husband. After that, her addiction to drugs took over. She gravitated toward men who involved drugs, due to her addiction. This way of life eventually led to her arrest on the conspiracy charges. Melissa has accomplished a lot during the 10 years she has been incarcerated. She started a program to help herself and other inmates become physically fit, by introducing Aerobics, Weightlifting, and Weight Loss programs. Her fitness and weight loss programs have contributed significantly to their self-esteem and physical well-being. Self-esteem is in short supply for most female prisoners.
